Bronco Branding
Camooweal is located north of the Tropic of Capricorn, on the border of Queensland and the Northern Territory. It is 188 km from Mount Isa. The distance to major capital cities is as follows: Melbourne - 2810 km, Sydney - 2515 km, Brisbane - 1992 km, Darwin - 1464 km. Of the beaten track in remote outback Queensland, not many tourist come here, despite the unique value. This is where The Australian National Bronco Branding Championships is held each year. An event of professional character which attracts a diverse range of outback personalities, it is an important celebration for the local community of around 200 people. Cattle branding came to Australia from America in XIX century. A Red-hot iron stamp is the main tool for branding. This technique remains unchanged for centuries, however during the Festival the hot coals are replaced with a bucket of yellow paint.
